Simply the Best!

On April 11th, despite the rain dampening the streets of Dayton, Ohio, the Schuster Center lit up with the vibrant energy of Tina Turner’s legendary life. The Tina Turner Musical brought forth the essence of the iconic singer’s five-decade career, drawing Daytonians out to experience the magic live on stage.

The evening was a celebration of Turner’s remarkable journey, punctuated by her timeless hits that have resonated through the ages. As the music filled the theater, it was like taking a trip down memory lane, with each song evoking nostalgia and emotion.  However, amidst the spectacle, there were moments where the portrayal seemed to falter. While the actress portraying Tina Turner delivered a commendable performance, there was a sense that the larger-than-life presence of the legendary singer was not fully captured. Some felt that the portrayal lacked the physical resemblance and the raw energy that defined Tina Turner.

One aspect that garnered mixed reviews was the famous Tina Turner wig. While it symbolized her iconic style, there were suggestions that it could have been executed with more authenticity and finesse.  Yet, even amidst these critiques, the production had its shining moments. Despite the discomfort of witnessing Turner’s tumultuous past unfold on stage, it served as a poignant reminder of her resilience and strength. The portrayal of her journey, including the hardships she endured, was a testament to her resilent spirit.

One of the unexpected highlights came at the end of the show. Just when the audience thought the performance had concluded, they were treated to a mini-concert, bringing the house down with electrifying energy and infectious enthusiasm! We celebrated the legend Tina had finally become on her terms as we sang and danced along!

In the end, the Tina Turner Musical provided an unforgettable evening of entertainment and reflection. It was a testament to the enduring legacy of Tina Turner, reminding us of the power of music to transcend time and adversity. If you haven’t seen it, please do!  The Icon herself was very pleased of the production…may she have continued rest…

“Well first of all, it’s difficult to see someone else do what we did for 40 years. I’m a perfectionist, so I look a little bit critically, but when I look and see it done so well, I feel proud”  ~Tina Turner
