From the Sweat Hotel to the Stage
Keith Sweat’s recent concert at the Akron Civic Theatre on March 30, 2024, was nothing short of an electrifying performance. The surprise opening act was Dave Hollister! I had never seen him before, and the music I needed a refresher on, but he brought it in a cool, chill way that set the tone for the rest of the night. He performed songs such as “Done”, “My Favorite Girl”, “Take Care of Home”, “Spend The Night” and more!
Up next… Keith Sweat! From the moment he stepped on stage with “Make You Sweat”…we knew the evening was going to be🔥! In a night filled with hits and surprises, Keith Sweat delivered a performance that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to be there. Sweat commanded the audience’s attention from beginning to end with his smooth vocals and undeniable charisma.
One of the highlights of the evening was Sweat’s medleys of his own hits as well as songs he wrote/co-wrote/produced for other artists. Classics like “Just Got Paid” by Johnny Kemp, “Lose Control” by Silk, and “Let’s Chill” by Guy and much more! But it wasn’t just Sweat who stole the show. His talented team of background singers and dancers added depth and energy to the concert.
One standout moment of the night was Sweat’s background singer, J-Stylz, took center stage and delivered a powerhouse performance of “Just Got Paid,” getting us on our feet and rockin’ to the beat!😉 When it came to the ultimate slow jam, “Make It Last Forever,” Sweat’s background vocalist Maya Milan took the spotlight and did it justice without a doubt! Although Maya Milan’s talent shone brightly, there was a collective wish among fans for her to take a more prominent role alongside Sweat, especially during their duet performances. Nevertheless, Maya’s contribution is pure 🔥…down to the closing performance of “Nobody”, another iconic track that had us spellbound.
Sweat’s dancers dazzled with their precision and artistry, while their stunning costumes added to the visual spectacle unfolding on stage. From start to finish, the concert was a masterclass in entertainment, showcasing Sweat’s enduring talent and his ability to captivate an audience.
For fans of Keith Sweat’s music, attending one of his live shows is a must. With his soulful vocals, engaging stage presence, a bit of humor, and a repertoire of timeless hits, Sweat delivers an experience that is not to be missed.
