A Sunday to Remember
I have to be honest… I hadn’t planned to go see Johnny Gill on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE me some JG, but timing, life, a Sunday, work the next day…hour drive… I wasn’t sure if it would all line up. So I didn’t grab a ticket.
But here’s where the story gets good. I’ve been in touch with Johnny’s brother, Randy Gill for awhile, yes, Randy from II D Extreme! Early on I asked him if he’d be in town with Johnny. I hinted, maybe if our schedules could sync, I could swing by to say hi, hang during soundcheck (if Johnny allowed it, of course)… hopefully get to visit for a few. Well… it actually worked out!
Not only did I get to watch soundcheck, but I had a late lunch with them, got invited to the concert, and spent the day soaking it all in. Needless to say, it was long, but it was worth every second.
Now for the main event: Johnny delivered, of course. The only twist this time? No band, just tracks. But did that stop him? Absolutely not. His voice commanded the room like it always does, powerful and smooth, belting out high-energy jams and beautiful ballads. The concert was part of The Sister Accord Foundation’s Celebration of Excellence, and the CEO Sonia Jackson Myles , also friend of Johnny’s, wanted to give him his “flowers” and honor him. The crowd was ready, received him with open arms, and Johnny gave us everything. Roses were flying, hits were hitting, and the vibe was electric. 😉
After the show, Ms Myles and Johnny chatted for nearly 30 minutes. I got to witness him talking about life, music, and just being… well, him. Experiencing that up close, live, in person, was something else.
Before I knew it, the day was winding down, and it was time to head home. Unexpected? Yes. Spontaneous? Absolutely. Fun? Off the charts.
A huge thank you to the Gill brothers for having me as your guest—it’s a Sunday I won’t soon forget.
