Free, Fascinating, and Full of History

There’s something so satisfying about finding a hidden gem, especially when it’s in a place you least expect. That’s exactly what happened to me at The Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana. I was there to attend a concert and decided to explore a bit before the show started. Lo and behold, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of music history: the Great American Songbook Foundation Exhibit.

Location & Hours

You’ll find this little wonder located on the Gallery level (3rd floor) inside The Palladium, at 1 Carter Green, Carmel, IN 46032. Even better, the exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 1 hour before performances, and the best part? It’s completely FREE!

What’s the Exhibit All About?

The Great American Songbook Foundation Exhibit celebrates the rich legacy of America’s most beloved music from the early 20th century. Think timeless tunes from legendary songwriters like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and so many others. The Great American Songbook represents the golden age of American popular music, covering genres like jazz, Broadway, and Hollywood classics. It’s an immersive walk through a crucial era that continues to shape music today.

Small But Mighty

Now, I’ll admit – this exhibit isn’t massive. It’s cozy, but don’t let the size fool you. It’s packed with information, memorabilia, and fascinating history that kept me completely captivated. From rare photos and sheet music to vintage recordings and artifacts, the exhibit pays tribute to the songwriters, performers, and music that defined generations.

Why You Should Go

Whether you’re a music buff, a casual fan, or just someone who appreciates history, this exhibit is an absolute treat. I love discovering places like this that offer so much culture and history without any big price tag attached. Plus, it’s located in such a beautiful venue like The Palladium, which is worth a visit on its own!

If you’re ever in Carmel—whether for a concert or just passing through—do yourself a favor and carve out a little time to check out the Great American Songbook Foundation Exhibit.
