Smooth Mellow Vibes!
If you’ve been following my journey, you might remember I attended a Candlelight Neo-Soul concert a few months ago. Back then, it was a mixed bag for me—amazing music but with a few distractions that threw off my vibe. I said I’d go again if the opportunity came, and guess what? I did!
On November 22, I found myself back at the Dayton Masonic Center, with its beautiful architecture and enchanting ambiance, ready to experience the glow of candlelight and the magic of Neo-Soul again. This time, everything aligned perfectly—no distractions, just good music, good energy, and a night to remember.
The setlist was familiar but no less spectacular, including:
🎵 Prince’s “Purple Rain” – A soulful masterpiece that filled the room with raw emotion.
🎵 Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor” – That one had us all swaying and reminiscing.
🎵 Alicia Keys’ “You Don’t Know My Name” – Smooth and sultry, just like Alicia intended.
🎵 Sade’s “Smooth Operator” – Always a classic, giving the night a touch of elegance.
🎵 D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” – Enough said. Goosebumps.
The night also delivered modern gems like Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” and SZA’s “Good Days,” plus heartfelt throwbacks like Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” By the time we got to Erykah Badu’s “Tyrone” and Solange’s “Don’t Touch My Hair,” the room was alive with that unmistakable Neo-Soul groove.
What made this experience shine brighter than the last? I think it was a combination of being in the moment and the crowd’s energy. Everyone seemed dialed in, fully present, and ready to soak up the vibe. The musicians were phenomenal, as always, and hearing these songs performed live under the soft glow of candles brought an intimacy that’s hard to describe.
I’m so glad I gave this another shot—it was absolutely worth it. Sometimes, a second chance can bring a whole new perspective, and this concert did just that. If you ever get a chance to attend a Candlelight concert, especially with a Neo-Soul theme, I highly recommend it. Trust me, your soul will thank you.
Until next time, keep it chill, keep it soulful. ✨
