Smooth Jazz Night

It had been way too long since I’d last seen Gerald Albright—years I tell you! At least 6 or 7. Which is tragic when you think about it, because we’ve known each other for even more years thru mutual friends! Well, I finally made it back to one of his shows, and it was worth every minute of the wait.

The Ludlow Garage was packed—full house of fans ready for a night of smooth, sultry sax vibes. Gerald hit the stage with his amazing band, and let me tell you, it was saxy magic! The crowd was swaying, the energy was high, and Mr. Albright did not disappoint.

He played his popular hits, and we were all soaking up every smooth note. But let me tell you about one special moment—he broke out his jazz rendition of Luther Vandross’ “So Amazing,” which was, in fact, my introduction to Gerald back in the day! Hearing it live again? Pure jazz heaven. So soothing, it felt like a musical time machine taking us straight back to his early days.

Then came another crowd-pleaser—his version of “My, My, My” by Johnny Gill. The whole room was feeling the groove. And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, Gerald threw in the ultimate party starter with “Champagne Life” by Ne-Yo. The vibe…🔥

Gerald’s stage presence is subtle yet commanding. He doesn’t need to say much—he lets his sax do the talking! Every show with him is unforgettable, and this one was no different.

But here’s the kicker—during the show, he announced that he had planned to sell and sign CDs after the show. Only problem? They were all stolen! Talk about a plot twist! Not cool, CD thief, not cool at all.

A handful of superfans stayed behind anyway, hoping for a quick pic, an autograph, or just a moment to say hi. I was definitely one of those hopefuls. I wondered if Gerald would even remember me after all this time. But once I said my name—ding!—the lightbulb came on, and just like that, we picked up right where we left off. We took a quick photo and got to catch up, at least until the venue started politely kicking us out. (Hey, we all gotta go sometime, right? 😄)

All in all, it was the perfect laid-back evening of smooth jazz with one of the best. Gerald Albright still has it, and then some! I promise it won’t be another 6 or 7 years before I catch him live again.
