The Experience I Never Knew I Needed!
Some concerts you attend.
Some concerts you experience.
The New Edition Way Tour with Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton rolled into Columbus on February 21, 2026, and let me just say, this tour continues to level ALL the way up. I’ve seen each of these artists separately over the years, so I already knew how they get down, but seeing them share the same stage? That turned the night into a non-stop, no-sitting, full-on celebration of legacy R&B.
Now… let’s talk about the twist in my night.
Enter: The “Fan Zone” (a.k.a. Behind. The. Stage.)
Out of pure curiosity, I decided to try the Fan Zone seating. Yep. Behind the stage.
And honestly? I had NO clue what to expect. None. Zero. I just thought, Hey… try it for the experience so you can say you did it.
Walking to my seat, front row of that section… I remember thinking, What in the world did I sign up for? However, I was prepared to make the best of a situation I didn’t fully understand….yet
That doubt didn’t last long.
The View You Don’t Get From the Front
What we got to witness back there was something the front-of-house audience never sees.
We could see the artists moving below the stage in our direction, dancing, prepping, and doing quick changes (don’t worry… those happened under the stage, not in front of us! LOL). There was this constant energy, like watching the show’s heartbeat in real time.
One of my favorite moments? Watching the NE Girls hype the fellas up as they were heading to the stage at the beginning. That behind-the-scenes camaraderie was special. You don’t get that view from the front – and it made you appreciate the machine that is New Edition even more.
The Opening That Said Everything
When New Edition took the stage, they hadn’t sung a note. They hadn’t done a single dance step.
And the arena?
SCREAMING.
They stood there, sharp in those red suits, as the intro to “Can You Feel It” by The Jacksons played. That moment alone told you exactly what you were witnessing:
Legends subtly, yet obviously honoring legends.
The Reality of Behind-the-Stage Seating
Now let’s be honest – Fan Zone seating comes with pros and cons.
The Pros:
- A rare behind-the-scenes perspective.
- Watching the flow of the show from a production angle.
- Seeing the movement, prep, and transitions happen in real time.
- Feeling like you’re part of the inner workings.
The Cons (and they’re real):
- Visibility is limited. Yes, it was designed as a 360° show, but naturally, the artists spend more time facing the front audience.
- For the most part, we were watching a lot of backs.
- The Jumbotron? Too high to comfortably view from my angle, being front row and the lowest seat. Imagine sitting in the very front row of a movie theater and trying to look up the whole time. Yeah… not ideal.
- When artists exited toward our side, everything happened FAST. Blink and you missed it.
- Sound clarity wasn’t always perfect back there – you definitely need to know the music already, or you’d spend time trying to figure out what was being sung.
Lucky for me, once I recognized a beat, I was right back locked in.
A Three-Hour Musical Marathon
This show ran for three (3) hours. No intermission. No “Okay, here comes the next act.”
You never knew who was popping out next.
Sometimes they performed solo.
Sometimes together.
Sometimes they blended in and out seamlessly.
It was precision showmanship all night – the kind that only comes from decades in the game.
And let me give you a real-life tip:
If you’re going to this show, you better arrive early, park, get your food, make that restroom stop, grab your drink, and be READY – because once it starts, it does. not. stop. This is not the time to be wandering the concourse thinking you’ve got a break coming. There isn’t one. You either stay locked in… or miss something! NE warned us themselves…DON’T BE LATE. Trust that!
Final Verdict
All in all? Great show. Absolutely worth it.
Fan Zone seating definitely has its perks if you want a different perspective. But for me? I’m good, I did it, and now I know. Next time, I want to be right out front seeing everything head-on in full action.
And thankfully, I will get that chance – I’m attending another stop later on this tour. Let’s just call this one the dress rehearsal. 😄
No matter where you sit, though, one thing remains true:
The music makes it worthwhile just being in the building.

3 hours? Wow! I was wondering if they ever turned around
