Experiencing A Holiday Classic!
Summary
Who knew that “A Christmas Story”, one of the most popular and beloved holiday classic movies of all time since it first released in 1983…was partly filmed right here in Cleveland, Ohio’s Tremont neighborhood? I had no idea actually, not until a friend and I were planning a road trip 2 years ago. I casually looked up things to do while in Cleveland and there you have it. How exciting, right? Well, yes and no..one key reason, WE had NEVER seen the movie! LOL Doubtful, we opted to just browse the gift shop and skip seeing the house and museum.
Fast forward to yet another Cleveland visit for an event. I decided to try this again, be prepared and watch the movie FIRST! ππΎππΎ The movie was cute and humorous; maybe I would have liked it better had I seen it back in the day? I don’t know, however, this isn’t a movie review so the point is…I finally felt like I could relate to visiting the house/museum!
The house is literally in a residential area, with narrow streets, so there isn’t a large area for parking or for huge crowds to move about easily. The main attractions are the gift shop (where you purchase the tour ticket) to the main house then the museum which displays memorabilia, artifacts, props, photos and fun facts throughout. There’s also a guestbook for visitors to sign upon entry.
After taking the tour I could definitely appreciate it more because I knew what I was looking at and how it related to the film. From the iconic leg lamp to the infamous BB gun, it was pretty cool to stroll through it all. For super fans, you can actually book a stay in the main house or the Bumper house next door! The admission for the tour was only $13 ! For all that it offers, this point of interest is worth stopping by to see. Be sure to allow a bare minimum of 1.5 hours. They are open year-round except for major holidays from 10 am-7 pm (with some exceptions). Parking is free.
When you do visit, have fun, relive the classic memories and be careful or you’ll put your eye out! π
