The night kicked off with the talented R&B singer Dossi, a native of Cleveland, whose soul-stirring vocals set the stage for what would be an unforgettable evening. I had never heard of her before, but she sang original music which sounded really good! I’ll have to keep an ear out for her.
Next up was J. Brown, another artist I’m unfamiliar with, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The covers of hits by Bobby Brown and New Edition her performed caught my attention, so of course we all sang along. During his set was an impromptu gesture that left a lasting impact on everyone present. Calling an older woman from the audience to join him at the foot of the stage, J. Brown serenaded her with a heartfelt performance of his song ‘Beautiful’, evoking tears of surprise and emotion from the unsuspecting fan. It was a moment of pure connection that resonated deeply with the audience and touched that woman’s heart.
Now for the main event….The Rebirth of Marvin headliner….October London!
Looking suave and smooth wearing black on black…October was ready to give us that old school soul! He captivated the audience from the first note of ‘Sensual Conversations’ leading to ‘You Look Better’ to set the entire vibe of the evening bringing his album to life! There was no disappointement from his performance, AT ALL
Yet, the most heartwarming moment of the evening came courtesy of October London himself, as he brought out his youngest and biggest fanโan adorable 5-year-old sweetheart who knew every word of his song “Mulholland Drive” by heart. October shared with the crowd his excitement about meeting this young fan during the meet and greet earlier in the day. Spotting her near the front of the stage, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to invite her up to sing the song once again for everyone. The sight of the little girl confidently belting out the lyrics, surrounded by adoring fans, was a testament to the universal appeal of October’s music and the genuine connections it fosters.
As the night progressed, October surprised the audience once again by bringing out his son to greet the crowd. Despite his initial shyness, his presence on stage was met with an outpouring of affection from both his father and the audience. October’s tender embrace and declaration of love for his son served as a poignant reminder of the importance of family and the power of love to transcend boundaries.
In the end, the Rebirth of Marvin Tour in Cleveland was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of music’s ability to unite, inspire, and uplift. From soulful performances to heartfelt interactions with fans, the evening was a testament to the enduring legacy of Marvin Gaye and the soulful spirit that continues to thrive in the hearts of artists like October London. As he closed the evening with ‘Back To Your Place’ the echoes of love and joy from the audience seemingly resonated beyond the venue and through the city. October London’s show isn’t just a concert, he is an experience that transcends generations that know and appreciate soul.
