Switch's Legacy Lives On!
Anticipation hung thick in the air as the stage was set for the performance by the legendary group Switch. The group, known for their soulful melodies and timeless hits, promised a blend of nostalgia and freshness that had fans buzzing with excitement. The show was slated to begin at 7:30, but was more like 7:45, so you know we were more than ready!
As the lights dimmed and the crowd cheered, Switch took the stage, greeted by thunderous applause. Alongside the newer members stood Gregory Williams, Eddie Fluellen, and Michael McGloiry, original members whose presence evoked a sense of reverence and admiration. From the moment the first note reverberated through the venue, it was clear that Switch was there to deliver a fun experince for us.
The energy was high as they launched into their setlist, seamlessly weaving together classic hits showcasing a musical journey that spanned decades. Music mixed with nostalgic stories both comical and enlightening, kept us engaged. The setlist included classics such as “Best Beat in Town,” “There’ll Never Be,” “I Call Your Name,” “I Wanna Be Closer” and more.
Despite the electrifying energy and the band’s undeniable talent, the set was only 1 hour-long! After the closing song and Switch bid farewell to the audience…we felt that surely they would return for an encore…right? Nope, it didn’t happen and it left many fans yearning for more. There was a collective sense of disbelief wondering if it was really over? 😲
Overall it was a great night of the music we all loved and enjoyed singing along to! Seeing them perform, one couldn’t help but to remember a time when Bobby and Tommy DeBarge were part of the original lineup. I must say that the new falsetto of the group, Akili Nickson has stepped in Bobby’s spot wonderfully. Because Phillip Ingram wasn’t able to make this gig, Eddie Guyton did a great job! The chemistry between them all, original and new was undeniable and that fusion captivated the audience from start to finish. Looking forward to the opportunity to see them again!
