Back at Ludlow Garage with New Vibes!

Some artists just have it—that timeless energy, that undeniable stage presence, that ability to make you feel like you’re hearing their songs for the first time every time. Karyn White? Oh, she’s absolutely one of those artists! The first time I saw the stunning Ms. White live was February 2024 at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati.

Fast forward to February 1, 2025, and here we are again—same place, same month, same powerhouse of a performer! But let me tell you, this wasn’t just a repeat performance. One thing I love about Karyn White is that she keeps it fresh. This concert was no carbon copy of last year’s; she switched it up, keeping things unpredictable and so refreshing. Of course, she gave us the classics—because what’s a Karyn White concert without “Secret Rendezvous,” “The Way I Feel About You,” “Romantic,” and “Slow Down”? Each one was pure fire, as expected. But what really stood out this time around were the surprises she threw into the mix.

Karyn, for the first time, performed songs from a soundtrack album she produced for Gale & The Storm, a film loosely based on her own life. And here’s the cool part—she let us know that the movie is now available to stream on TUBI! I remember when she was working on this project a few years ago, and since I already had the soundtrack, it was great to hear those songs live and know I can now watch the film.

Another unexpected but welcome addition to the setlist? “Walkin’ the Dog.” Yep, she pulled that one out, and it fit perfectly with the night’s vibe. And let’s not forget the highlight that had the crowd going wild—the return of her duet “Love Saw It” with Cincinnati’s own Vince Stroud. Now, last year’s version was already great, but this time? They added an extra ummmph to it, and whew, you could feel it!

Karyn wrapped up the night by selling CDs and merchandise, and she invited everyone to stick around for photos and autographs. My initial plan was to stay, but when I saw the length of that line? Yeahhh, no thank you. I’m good. I got my meet-and-greet moment last year backstage, so I didn’t feel the need to brave the crowd again.

All in all, 90 minutes of Karyn White was a perfect R&B night—energetic, engaging, and never predictable. Karyn is the same powerhouse from the mid-80s, and I’m here for it!

Until next time, Karyn! 🎶✨
