12 Years of Thriller!
Okay…so this one was totally unplanned. Two days before, I had never even heard of Wadsworth, Ohio, and I certainly had no clue there was an event called Scare on the Square. But since I was kinda in the area, well, about 45 minutes away, I thought, why not? And y’all…WOW.
Pulling into town before sunset, I started spotting zombies everywhere. For a hot minute, I couldn’t tell if they were just really committed to their Halloween vibes…or secretly warming up for something bigger. 🤷🏾♀️🧟♀️ Spoiler alert: they were DEFINITELY part of the show.
October 18th, 2025, Wadsworth came alive for the 12th annual Scare on the Square. Yes, 12th annual!! And I never even knew about it! The square was buzzing with costumes, community energy, and local shops and eateries open to satisfy our hunger and thirst. A DJ was spinning tunes, handing out candy to the kids, and keeping the vibes festive, right up until dark, when it was finally time for…THRILLER.
And here’s the kicker: from each side of the intersection, dancers took their positions. No matter where you were standing, you could catch the moves. I heard they perform the dance repeatedly eight times, and let me tell you, watching zombies hit those iconic Thriller steps over and over was hypnotic. A live Michael Jackson “Thriller” performance had the sidewalks packed, the crowd buzzing, and that spine-tingling energy you only get when something legendary is happening right before your eyes. 👑🔥
It was the perfect little detour, the kind you stumble into and leave thinking, how did I not know about this before? If you’re ever in Northeast Ohio around mid-October, mark your calendar, Scare on the Square is where Thriller comes to life, literally.
