Summary

Since I was introduced to the “Seafood Chalupa Salad” at Don Jose’s, Fullerton in 2008, I was hooked on it! Honestly, beyond the salad mentioned, the complimentary chips/salsa and the house margarita, I couldn’t tell you anything about other menu items LOL The restaurant as a whole…very inviting, family friendly, clean and the staff is pretty attentive! We’ve never had to wait long for service, which is a major cool point for me coming off the plane, straight to them feening for the Chalupa Salad! 🙂 Chips & Salsa: The house made warm chips are so good that it’s easy to just keep eating them until you’re full before your main entree’! Perfect crunchy texture, not greasy House Margarita: They offer blended or frozen (I opted for the blended) Great taste, not outstanding, but about your average GOOD margarita. And since we were there at Happy Hour….the $3 price made it taste even better! 😉 Seafood Chalupa Salad: NOW we’re getting to the real part…my favorite (only) menu item I ever get. LOL This scrumptious salad consists of Shrimp, crisp greens, mushrooms, hard boiled eggs, tomato, avocado, cheese, bacon and a vinaigrette dressing. The menu states it’s a mild jalapeno vinaigrette. It’s mild alright, because I have yet to taste any jalapeno flavor. It’s not a bad thing, because the entire salad ingredients compliment each other so well… And the bonus….the bowl…can’t forget the crispy, crunchity (is that a word? ha!) edible tortilla bowl! It’s a YUM all around on this, the reason I have to have one every year I visit! My bestie had the “Veggie Fajitas”! Beautiful dish and tasted very good also! The veggies were portabella mushrooms, zucchini and yellow squash. Served on the side were sauteed bell peppers/onions/tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, refried beans and warm tortillas While Rodrigo’s have a very limited menu for Happy Hour, you really cannot beat the prices of $3/$4. They have Sunday Champagne Brunch and Lunch Specials also! I have yet to experience their other dishes (maybe next year?) But from my 10 years of visits, they haven’t failed me yet on my salad 🙂 Have you been here or other locations in Cali? What are your favorite mexican spots where you live? Sound off below!

  1. Chalupa Salad is absolutely the best. Happy hour beers/margaritas and chips and salsa make it even better. If your in town…. stop through!
