Summary
If you haven’t been checking out Swizz Beats and Timbaland‘s innovative, online battle “Verzuz“…you’ve surely been missin out!
I have only seen one prior, but tonight….babayyyy…TONIGHT, the QUEENS took over and taught us a few thangs! This was the FIRST Ladies Battle and they showed all the way out!
First of all there was no battle…oh no…this was a bond, a conversation, a let’s hang and sip a lil sumthin, light candles, incense, what have you and share music with the world kinda vibe! The music played…not all but most of the songs we love as they showed appreciation, fully respecting and celebrating each other’s talent…EPIC!
OVER 3 hours!! Ya heard me? 3.5 hours in fact of Jill Scott and Erykah Badu vibing with each other, sharing, caring, teaching, learning, and most of all uplifting each other as we Queens should do without question! They are authentic and true. The scene was so chill…and much needed by all.
Checking in at over 750k on Instagram alone and according to Swizz…across social media we’re talkin over 6mil in! Celebrities were in attendance celebrating the culture once again as a unit! Now, Jilly and Badu didn’t just show up and play songs…nahhh they were more than ready and not playin…they promoted it and even created merchandise for this epic event! Never have I seen THAT during verzuz!! Goes to show you what Queens can really make happen! Erykah even had an after party….whaaat?? YES!! When I popped in, there were already 25k partying!
It was an emotional ride, for sure! My social media newsfeed was all on this! Everyone and I do mean every post, comment I noticed, was all love and positivity. When it was decided among the ladies to play one last song, Jill Scott brought out “The Way” which send IG into a frenzy! Next Erykah began playing “Tyrone” …and you KNOW we were all for it, but unfortunately in the middle of it, Erykah lost connection!! As Erykah gathered herself to come back, Miss Jill Scott played “Tyrone” on her behalf to keep the flow going. Now that’s a Queen, stepping in to straighten her sister’s crown! 👑
Without going over each song played throughout the night…the most touching moment was the closing song; Jill Scott’s “Cross My Mind” in honor of the recent passing of Andre Harrell, who had planned to be watching and requested to hear THAT song. 😪
This was truly a groundbreaking, record-breaking night…Thank You Swizz and Timbaland
